Car amplifier problems?
I am trying to install a subwoofer to my 2006 mustang and am having problems with the amplifier. I had some professionals attempt to install it but when they connected the amp to the car (power, ground, and remote wire) it just went into protection mode. They know the ground was good and wires were right but didn't know why it was going into protection mode. They even tried with one of their own amps and it did the same thing. Could this be happening because we didn't connect the sub to the amp? please help
Try and go through this little fault finder.
Hope it helps?
Ensure you have a good ground (- Earth).
Description of the PROTECT system built into amplifiers........
The diagnostic system will shut down the amplifier, until reset by turning the head unit off, and back on. This state of affairs will be indicated by the front panel PROTECT LED lighting up under the following conditions:
1 - A short circuit on the loudspeaker leads.
2 - An internal amplifier fault that causes a DC offset on the loudspeaker output.
Should the amplifier go into protect mode, simply disconnect all RCA and speaker leads, while keeping +12 volt, power ground and remote leads connected.
1. Now turn the amplifier back on, and if the diagnostic LED lights, the amplifier has an internal fault.
2. If not, plug the RCA cables back, and reset the amplifier. If it goes into diagnostic now, the fault lies in the input, either with bad cables or source unit.
3. If the amplifier seems fine with RCA cables plugged in, connect the speakers, one at a time, and if one of the speakers or its wiring is faulty, it will activate the diagnostic
system.

Do you need Pro Tools compatibility? Pro Tools is widely regarded as the industry standard in music recording software, and not quite quite a few interfaces are compatible with Pro Tools. You'll want to look into M-Audio's M-Powered line of interfaces like the M-box, Rapidly Track Pro, or Mobile Pre. These also usually come bundled with a stripped-down version of Pro Tools for example Pro Tools SE. Let me state here, however, that Pro Tools is definitely NOT mandatory, even if it's regarded as the industry standard. If you aren't preparing to have multiple studios working on your projects, all with their own set-ups, then compatibility is not an issue. Your audio interface, in whatever form, is essential for recording your audio tracks. You will find a range of audio interfaces of all sizes so you'll be able to record from single tracks to full orchestras! As we constantly say at House Brew Audio, let you needs drive your gear buying decisions. Whatever your requirements are there's an audio interface out there to meet them. There's no substitute for excellent recording equipment just like the Professional Power Amplifier you might see on this page.
