Not sure how to wire my loud speakers?
Ok, so I have two B215A's by Behringer and they have one 1/4" input, one XLR input, and one XLR link output. I plan to hook these up to my laptop so I can run my DJ software. What I originally planed was using a 1/4" with a 1/8" adapter from the laptop to the first speaker. Then using a XLR female to 1/4" female adapter on the XLR link output of the first speaker and a 1/4" cable to the 1/4" input of the second speaker. Does anyone think this will work or should I go a different route?
Just remembered my laptop has two 1/8" outputs, so I might just be able to hook up both speakers that way?
If you can switch the speakers' XLR's to line level, I'd try an 1/8" to XLR out of the laptop to the first speaker, and gang the speakers XLR to XLR. Make sure all 3 devices are drawing current from the same circuit.
Can't see a real advantage or disadvantage in using both 1/8" outs.
You will discover a couple of factors you should think about for anyone who is purchasing an audio interface, including: How several inputs do you need? Take into account what kind of audio you're going to be recording and think about the number of inputs you will need. The price increases with the number of inputs. If you're a singer-songwriter-type, for example you'll almost certainly want an interface with two microphone preamp inputs so you could simultaneously record, say, your vocals and guitar. If you're going to utilize a drum kit rather than synthesized drums, or you want to record an entire band at once, you can need a lot more inputs for things like snare, bass, kick and cymbals, other guitars, other vocals, etc.
Do you need Pro Tools compatibility? Pro Tools is widely regarded as the industry standard in music recording software, and not extremely numerous interfaces are compatible with Pro Tools. You'll want to look into M-Audio's M-Powered line of interfaces like the M-box, Quick Track Pro, or Mobile Pre. These also typically come bundled with a stripped-down version of Pro Tools including Pro Tools SE. Let me state here, however, that Pro Tools is definitely NOT mandatory, even if it's considered the industry standard. In case you aren't planning to have multiple studios working on your projects, all with their own set-ups, then compatibility just isn't an issue. Your audio interface, in whatever form, is essential for recording your audio tracks. You can find a range of audio interfaces of all sizes so you'll be able to record from single tracks to full orchestras! As we always say at Dwelling Brew Audio, let you needs drive your gear purchasing decisions. Whatever your needs are there is an audio interface out there to meet them.
